Please tell me a bit about yourself
I’m from Bury in Greater Manchester and from a really young age I’ve been into science in a big way. I decided to study four A levels which led me to Oxford University where I studied and gained a Master’s degree in earth sciences.
At some point I may return to academic study to do a PhD. I am fascinated by renewable energies and at Applica I am learning so much about the industry in a practical sense.
What do you enjoy about your role?
As a recruiter I am in a privileged position which allows me to meet and place incredibly talented engineers and scientists. Having studied geology, geochemistry and geophysics amongst other subjects I can now see firsthand how they apply this knowledge and their skills at a practical level to deliver a project.
I find peoples' stories fascinating and understanding them at a personal level allows me to get the right fit for them.
I’m very passionate about the environment and I know that the big energy companies have the potential to literally save the world, I really enjoy working with them and in a small way I like to think that I am helping them to achieve this important goal.
Why did you choose to work with Applica
Applica has given me a completely new challenge which offers me the opportunity to develop a new skill set. I’m meeting people from all over the world, in highly skilled roles, who know what they want in an industry that fascinates me. I wouldn’t get this exposure anywhere else.
What is the best part of your role
Aside from the work which I do, it is the team. The people make Applica. I ask A LOT of questions and everyone at every level helps me. It is a very nurturing environment, there is no judgement and everyone takes time to help me.
Please tell me something not many people know about you
I have flown two planes and I think everyone knows this but I will say it anyway, I have a massive rock / fossil collection, hundreds actually, a window sill full, four drawers a shelf and a desk!
