Please tell me a little bit about yourself:
I decided to study business at university because of my interest in the subject and the wide range of opportunities which it offered. I didn’t want to tie myself down to just one area.
I was approached by a recruitment agency about actually working in recruitment and although initially sceptical I found them to be a lovely set of people and the whole recruitment process was a really nice experience.
They really took the time to understand my professional background, to get to know me personally and taking all of this into account ensured that any opportunities I was offered would be a great fit.
The whole thing was such a good experience that I decided that I wanted to help other people to get the same experience that I did.
I started in IT recruitment, moved into an internal recruitment role in a bank and through another amazing recruiter I’m now at Applica.
What attracted you to working for Applica?
From the start I just had a good feeling about Applica. The culture here is 100% team and for me it was just a perfect fit.
The first time I was offered the role I wasn’t able to take up the offer but a few months later when the circumstances were right, I spoke to Matt and Tom again and here I am!
For me a company’s culture number is my number one priority. Applica is very forward thinking in its approach to work, they see whole people and I appreciate that.
What is the best part of your job?
I absolutely love getting to know the candidates, understand their circumstances and getting the right fit for someone. Another thing which is as important (possibly more) is being able to be a candidate’s advocate. As a recruiter very often you are able to offer candidates opportunities which they may not have even considered through various reasons; quite often lack of confidence. They wouldn’t ask for the promotion, the salary increase, the flexibility. I do and the look on their faces when they’ve secured an amazing position, which they are 100% qualified for is actually the absolute best part of my job.
What are the benefits of working in a global company?
This is a key reason why I really enjoy working for Applica. I love to travel, meet new people and learn about different cultures. On a daily basis I’m able to speak to people from all over the world! It’s a perfect match. I’ve recruited for roles across Europe and the US. I find it so interesting.
What is the best advice you can give to candidates?
Ultimately be yourself and be clear about what are you are looking for, e.g., do you need flexibility, do you want to be on site, what kind of team are you looking for. If you’re honest with your recruiter we will deliver on what you need … and some!
Finally tell me something not many people know about you
It’s an ambition of mine to work overseas, somewhere warm and sunny. I love the UK but the grey skies aren’t always compatible with my sun worshipping!
